The Erasmus program has been of enormous value to European tertiary education. It has facilitated the mobility of thousands of students and faculties, and has encouraged the development of innovative teaching, learning and research collaborations among higher education institutions in the EU.

Under the Erasmus scheme, NUI Maynooth has developed exchange partnership with over 100 European universities. A full list of NUI Maynooth’s Erasmus partners is available at http://international.nuim.ie/ NUI Maynooth Students who are EU citizens or hold permanent residency in an EU state are encouraged to take the opportunity of studying at any of our partner university for one year as part of the BA international degree programme. Such study abroad experience promotes familiarity with other European countries, languages and cultures. This has become an increasingly beneficial educational and professional asset.

Similarly, we welcome students from all our partner universities to spend a year at NUI Maynooth. As an exchange student at NUI Maynooth, you will enjoy a wonderful Maynooth experience, to name but a few, top quality teaching and learning facility, friendly staff, beautiful campus, and fun living.

Under the Erasmus programme you do not have to pay any tuition fees to the host university. You will be required to continue to pay your normal tuition fees to the home institution during the study period abroad. You will be still need to register as normal with your home university even though you will be studying abroad. Students that have qualified to be an Erasmus exchange student (a pass in second year) are entitled a grant to cover part of the living cost abroad

ECTS

Under the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) students are required to complete 60 ECTS (30 per semester). At the end of your stay abroad your host university will issue you with a transcript which will indicate the number of ECTS credits you have completed and this will be recognised by your home university. If you do not get sufficient credits, not all is lost, and you will then revert back to a BA degree.
