There are plenty of opportunities for talented postgraduate students to get funding at NUI Maynooth, in either taught or research based courses. Postgrastrate researchers can benefit from the presitigious John and Pat Hume scholarships which provide fees and a maintenance allowance of €5,000.
The two major funding agencies for research students are the two Irish Research Councils; the Irish Research Council for Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS), and the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET, also known as the Embark Initiative). Depending on the nature of the scholarship award, it can range from funding to cover your fees, up to a full scholarship with not only fees, but a living allowance and provision for expenses also. There are also funded summer reseach interships for undergraduate students at the university. NUI Maynnoth will be offering a 4 year structured PhD Programme in a number of disciplines from September 2010. A Key aspiration of the 4 year programme is advancement of knowledge through research, it is also underpinned by structured training in generic and transferable skills. Year 1 will consist of taught modules specialising in the chosen reseach fields with possible rotation projects hosted by academic and industry laboratories (depends on the subject). Years 2 -4 will consist of a dedicated research project with continued mentoring in professional development.
The 4 year structured PhD programme is initially available in the following disciplines: Immunology, Economics and Finance, Netwrok Mathematics, Social Science, Humanities (Celtic Studies, History, Music, English, and Translation Studies) with ICT, and Envirment and Climate Change.
